Janhit Society was started in 1987 by our founder, Late Sh. Om Prakash Kaushik. He was inspired to help those in need in a chance meeting with Veerji Dasondhi Ram in 1975. Veerji was a legendary social worker and founder of several charitable and educational institutes in Patiala. Om Prakash ji joined initially joined in the efforts of Veerji. He decided to form the society in 1987 after the demise of Veerji. The society was registered as a charitable institute in Punjab in 1990.
The society started with 11 members and focused initially on helping poor and needy students. From its humble beginnings, the society has grown to over 1600 members with an annual budget of over Rs. 25 Lakhs. It is one of the most well known charitable societies in Patiala district and runs many programs including free training centers, old age pensions, educational programs, advocacy programs, medical camps and five ambulances. You can learn of these activities through our pages. Though Om Prakash Ji passed away in 2013, his spirit still lives among our members inspiring them to work selflessly for those in need.
